The OrthoClast System offers endoscopically controlled joint revision arthroplasty.  A new Cement and Cementless removal system for Hips, Knees and shoulder revisions Arthroplasty. OrthoClast is a miniaturized chiselling system that allows endoscopically controlled cement removal even from deep within the femur in hip revision arthroplasty. The devise consists of a control unit, a handpiece, a set of chisels of different lengths and shapes, a set of plug extraction tools and a specially designed intrafemoral endoscope.

OrthoClast System - Overview

OrthoClast uses simple ballistic principles to effect mechanical fracturing of the bone cement. A special extraction set facilitates the removal of the distal cement layer and of the intramedullary plug. The cement removal procedure, even in the depth of the femur, is controlled with an endoscopic system via a monitor consequatur.

OrthoClast Cementless Removal Option

Revision of cementless prostheses with pneumatic shock waves

The removal of the cementless prosthesis using the conventional technique with transfemoral access usually ends with major damage to the bone. The OrthoClast system in combination with the flexible micro chisel preserves the bone stock and normally avoids transfemoral access. The OrthoClast System works with shock wave technology comparable to a pneumatic hammer.

Field of use:
• Structured/unstructured prosthesis stems
• Septic / aseptic release of the prosthesis stem
• Broken / damaged prosthesis stems
• Misaligned prosthesis stems

The OrthoClast handset combined with a small, flexible micro chisel works up to a maximum depth of 160 mm.
• Dissection of the bone-prosthesis interface
• Chisel with pre-defined bone and prosthesis sides
• Controlled sliding of the flat chisel along the prosthesis stem
• No bone perforation or fissure

• Controlled sliding of the chisel
• Bone-saving method to dissect the bone-prosthesis interface
• No femoral fenestration
• Significantly reduced operation time
• Minimal bone trauma

OrthoClast Cement Removal Option

Revision of cemented prostheses using endoscopic view using OrthoClast and OrthoScop

The manual removal of bone cement during cemented arthroplasty revision with conventional chisels is exhausting, imprecise and a mine field of potential complications. The OrthoClast system simplifies all processes, preserves the bone stock and usually avoids fenestration.

Field of use:
• Proximal bone cement removal for hip and knee revision arthroplasty
• Medial and distal bone cement removal with endoscopic view
• Removal of the distal cement tip and the medullary plug with endoscopic view

This method is based on decades of experience in the development and application of pneumatically generated shock waves in the medical field.

• Endoscopic view to the end of the medullary cavity
• Precise and controlled guiding of the chisel, significantly reduced danger of cortical bone perforation
• Removal of cement by saving the bone structure all the way down to the bottom
• Unimpaired, intact cortical bone; no cerclages necessary
• Minimal bone trauma
• Significantly reduced operation time
• Reduced convalescence period for the patient

Removal of Cement Restrictor Plug

Removal of the distal cement plug in revision total hip arthroplasty may be difficult, even if the plug is located distally in the femur. OrthoClast / OrthoScop is a novel extraction device, which consists of a K-wire and a cannulated drill and extractor, which could be placed centrally under visual control
